I remember when I told my Mum my daughter had a medical condition, a potentially life-threatening health condition that would need medication for life. I called my Mum and told her the news through held back tears and she told me, “Don’t worry, everyone has something.”
Do you know it really stuck with me and years later I remind myself of this when my mind drifts to ‘why us?’.
When I told my Mother In Law the same news she practically broke down, shouted to the heavens, screamed…it was like a scene from Nollywood! I understood her pain but it wasn’t comforting.
Not many people know but I have my own health condition. It’s not life threatening, thank God, but it causes a lot of pain, sometimes weeks of pain on end. It’s not something you can see, but I might walk a little funny or seem hunched over or lop sided at times. I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
My God it’s painful. Take my advice, don’t Google, the pictures are pretty horrific. Absess growing in sweaty areas; think underarms, under breasts, groin… I recently had an absess the size of a golf ball – it was brutal and I lived on painkillers and antibiotics for weeks.
There’s no cure but I’m sure mine is linked to sugar.
I can’t seem to kick the habit despite the havoc it wrecks on my body. For me it’s back to watching what I eat, at least trying to and plenty of antiseptic creams.
Sis I just want to encourage you that you’re not alone in whatever you’re going through. Doesn’t have to be illness, it could be a tough marriage, loss of a job, still waiting on God for a child, or even feeling something is off in life.
Although we shouldn’t compare ourselves, everyone has something, please fix your crown and face your front. Between you and God you’ve got this! Don’t give up hope that things will change.
